Are you interested in starting an online business, but don’t know where to start? Maybe you would like to generate a stream of passive income but are feeling lost? Here’s how you can utilize one of my favorite platforms, Kajabi! With Kajabi, you can set up your online business, automate many of its functions, and start generating passive income!

Kajabi is what I use personally for several different facets of my business. It has loads of functions, it is easy to use, it looks nice, and I can use it to generate quite a bit of passive income. I use Kajabi for my online courses, webinars and coaching programs, to sell digital products, to create and maintain an email list for free, and to syndicate my opt-ins and lead magnets. In addition to all these functions, I also used Kajabi to build all the websites needed to host these services. If you’re interested in learning how to develop a presence on Kajabi, but also how to target potential clients, follow the detailed outline below for everything you need to start generating an income online!

What Businesses Can You Set Up Through Kajabi?

Kajabi allows you to set up and host a variety of digital products including online courses, memberships, communities, podcasts, newsletters, and coaching programs. I personally use Kajabi to sell my digital products — they don’t list that you can sell digital products there, but I have it created to be an eCourse platform. I first created a video on how to download and install the digital product, and then I uploaded the digital product in the Files section of the eCourse.

If you like the features that Kajabi offers, but you are looking for a site where you can sell tangible products — or you want to have more flexibility with offering more digital downloads — then you can set up a Kajabi site for the majority of your features, and then utilize a separate ecommerce platform such as Etsy, Shopify,or WooCommerce to host your products —you can link both sites together.

Important Note

If you have not set yourself up as a legal business entity, you can learn here on exactly how to do that for the State of California. Even if you’re not a California resident, I still recommend watching that video because in contains an outline of steps that are most common in order to file your business legally.

Branding Your Business

Before you begin to create your site on Kajabi, you should utilize another tool which you can access for free — Canva. Canva is a free graphic design tool and its free features are very powerful; it allows you to create professional, polished looking, branded content that you can utilize on your website. You’ll be able to design brand materials like your logo, webpage banner, backgrounds, and more. Creating a centralized feeling and brand design helps clients understand your overall aesthetic, and will help create brand recognition.

You can also upgrade and use the paid version of Canva. I personally utilize the paid version as I like the additional features it has to offer. Their monthly fee is relatively low, and having a paid account allows me to access higher level features such as many more stock photos, higher level graphics and design elements, creating images with a transparent background, as well as a resize feature where I can resize any of my graphics automatically.

If you have already created branded materials for your business, then you are ready to build your website.

How to Build Your Website

How to Use Kajabi’s Website Builder

One of the tools within Kajabi is a powerful website builder. From within Kajabi’s dashboard, you are able to access the website section, and under “pages” you can add a new page. Kajabi then provides you with a variety of different templates for various sorts of websites that you may need to create. Most likely, you’ll want to select one of the sales templates that are shown here for your main website. These are also pre-populated with a variety of different elements already in them, so it makes it extremely fast and easy to set up.

From the website builder, you are able to select each element and customize the text, the button color, the background color, the images, and much more. There’s a variety of different tools and elements over on the left hand side of the webpage that you can add in such as basic pricing features, frequently asked questions, testimonials, and various other features. Utilize the design elements that you already created in Canva and upload them here to feature a branded look to your logo, your banner and other elements amongst the page.

Adding Products to Your Site

Next, you will build the products you are going to be selling on your website. Keep in mind that Kajabi is used to feature eCourses, coaching, webinars and podcasts.

To create a product in Kajabi, click on “new product.” Kajabi then gives you several different options for types of products you can design. These include mini courses, online courses, drip courses — where the content is sent out gradually — membership sites, coaching programs, and communities. Creating a product on Kajabi, such as an online course, is extremely easy. Once you click the product that you want to design, Kajabi will automatically populate it, and all you have to do is customize it, upload your videos, your course materials and various content, and any design elements you want to incorporate. The final product page will reveal a polished, easy to navigate, and professional page that your customer will see when purchasing your product or course.

Creating an Offer, Sales, and Checkout Page

Once you have loaded the products or programs that you are selling, you will need to create an offer in order to price and sell that product. Kajabi will allow you to build several different offers wherein you can have several different pricing structures for your products.

For example, if you are offering a discount, a sale, or a bundle deal, you are able to create and customize offers. Once you have built an offer, you will then be able to customize the checkout page, the sales page, and various other components that are all linked to that one specific offer.

How I Sell Digital Products on Kajabi

There is no option in Kajabi for you to add digital products, however I have a workaround on my website where I am able to sell digital products — specifically my Lightroom presets. I do this by creating an eCourse and then uploading the presets as an attached file within the eCourse.

You can use this method if you are selling just a small handful of digital products, but I would recommend to host your digital products on a different platform such as Shopify, WooCommerce, or Etsy. You can then link your eCommerce site over to your Kajabi site through the form of an embedded link.

How to Market Your Business

Once you have completed all steps above and you are ready to launch your site, you may not be as ready as you think you are. Just because you built your online business does not necessarily mean you will gain clients right away. In order to attract customers to your business, you have to market yourself effectively. The next step in the process is to create a way to generate leads so target clients and customers are able to locate you on the internet.

Creating Mailing Lists

One of the most effective ways to generate online sales is by creating mailing lists. Once you collect a customer’s email address, you are able to sell to them in the future using that mailing list.

In order to create a mailing list that will encourage clients to buy from you, you must create a lead magnet. A lead magnet is a free product — something that you give away that has significant value. Your target customers will find this free product online, see that it has value to them, and then provide you with their email address in exchange for the free digital product. When they enter their email address they also opt-in to your mailing list.

If your free product has a significant amount of value and it helps them with whatever problem they are trying to solve, they will begin build a level of trust for your brand — that trust will then lead them to purchase from you later on. As long as you continue to foster that mailing list and provide good content and updates to your customers, the trust in your brand will continue to develop and they will eventually purchase from you.

How to Create a Lead Magnet

Creating a free product is extremely easy — you can create one in Canva! On Canva, you will be able to create a wide variety of free, downloadable, digital products.

Lost on what to create? Think of something that your target customer, client, or student would value. This could a free piece of information such as a PDF guide, a template, a free webinar, a free ecourse, or anything that you can create quickly and easily, and that has significant value to it. If your lead magnet is going to be a digital download, I would encourage you to use Canva. Canva will allow you to create things such as PDFs, ebooks, social media templates, and various other items that can be created into valuable lead magnets.

Pipelines — Kajabi’s BEST Feature

Once you have created a free valuable lead magnet, you will then load it onto your Kajabi website. One of Kajabi’s most powerful features is its pipeline feature. Pipelines allow you to create a very powerful automated system for generating leads. They allow you to create a free opt-in where your target client, customer, or students will find your free product, enter their email address, and opt in to receive the product. Everything after that can then be automated!

Kajabi allows you automate sending the actual product to your customer, as well all of the subsequent sales emails that will let your customer know about other products and services that are available. You can even set up automated email sequences and attach other products for them to then purchase.

Giving away something that is very valuable for free is an excellent way to get target clients to not only come to your website, but to trust your expertise in the field, to trust your digital products, and to start to come back to your brand over and over again. The more valuable the piece of free content you provide is, the more likely you are to create an actual sale from that lead in the future.

Blogging Your Visuals

Once you have created those graphics, post them on your blog with descriptive content and links to the products. Once you have them posted on your blog, you can also them pin them directly on Pinterest. Additionally, you can also directly upload those graphics to Pinterest and link them back to your opt-in form. If you do this, they will not only turn up on Pinterest searches, but also from your blog — as long as it is tagged with relevant keywords — and it that gives it the potential to show up in Google searches and other search platforms.

Kajabi has a built in blog feature which allows you to easily create a blog within your website. This will allow you to create custom blog posts, upload images, and optimize it for SEO and sharing.

Kajabi is extremely powerful if you are considering setting up an online coaching business, a podcast business that is monetized, digital products, or if you want to utilize any of the other features such as the mailing list, the lead magnets, or opt-ins; I strongly recommend it. I have used it for the last three years and I absolutely love the platform.
